Art Lesson 2: Cross Contour

I teach art to children and adults. I decided to add my lessons to my blog to have easy access to them while in class and to make them available for anyone. Even if you are not learning painting or drawing, these lessons can help you have more appreciation for art. I am keeping these lessons super SIMPLE as the actual lesson happens in person and I am trying to reduce my computer time. The lesson below is just an introduction to cross contour for little kids.

Cross Contour Drawing

Cross contour lines are drawn lines that travel, as the name suggests, across the shape. They help create the illusion of 3D form. They can also be used to show lumps, bumps or other details. With the help of cross contour you can make your drawings look more realistic.

Which of these candy canes looks more realistic and why?

These are some examples of cross contour.
