If you buy the Wonderful Pistachios brand the price is exactly the same!
I bought one 8oz bag of pistachios with shell and one 4 oz bad of pistachios with no shell (same brand). They were both the exact same price so the math was super easy. I weighed both bags before eating them to make sure that the weight was correct (it was). I saved the shells as I was eating the 8oz bag. I weighed the shells and they were 4 oz! So obviously both bags contained the same amount of pistachios for the same price... did they really? They were some empty shells and some "naked" pistachios. I didn't make sure the amounts of these matched, but probably even if they didn't match this wouldn't have made much difference. I will eat another bag and I will update these results.
I am NOT getting paid for advertising this brand. I was not going to mention the brand but as I read other articles on the same topic I realized that other brands do price them differently. Where you buy them might also affect their price. I bought both bags at the Family Dollar.
I want to keep this article brief. Don't you hate those long articles where you can't find the information right away? That's why I put the results of my experiment on the first sentence. I might update this article later after trying different brands of pistachios but since the weight of one empty shell is the same as one "naked" pistachio you can now do the math quickly when you are at the store.
On a side note, I ended up eating the "naked" pistachios in one seating while the shelled ones took me two or three days. So our human psychology gets on the way and you might end up eating more if you get the ones with no shell.
